I love to talk science – especially with people who don’t think about it every day! Additionally, I’m a first generation college student and PhD, and I’d be happy to talk to anyone with questions about applying to college or to PhD programs in the chemistry/life science area. If you’re interested in science outreach for your students, please feel free to reach out here!
Outside the lab, I’m currently involved with a couple of great organizations.
The Seattle chapter of the Association for Women in Science (AWIS) runs a group mentoring program to connect women in STEM entirely through volunteers. I’m currently serving as the co-chair for this program alongside Danielle Faivre. There is more detailed information about the program on the Seattle AWIS website. Please reach out via [email protected] for more information if you’d like to join us as a mentor or mentee! Mentee recruitment starts in September and the formal program runs from October to May. I’d also be happy to chat about AWIS generally, or to connect you with any other committees in the group.
If you’re interested in mass spectrometry as a career path, I also strongly recommend getting involved with the Females in Mass Spectrometry (FeMS) community. Beginning in September each year, they run an excellent mentorship program that pairs no more than 10 mentees with up to 4 mentors. All the mentors in this program are mass spectrometry professionals spanning industry and academia. I’ve been a mentee for the last two cycles, and it has been an excellent experience!
